Elements of Plot

  • The first conflict that occurred in this story would be that Esperanza did not like the house she had just moved into. It was better than her old house but it still was not the type of house she had always dreamed of having.
  • While struggling with not liking her house Esperanza had a big problem with loosing friends. Some moved away while others just stopped being nice to her.
  • The next biggest conflict would be the fact that Sally left Esperanza all alone at the carnival and she ended up getting raped which more than likely ruined her whole childhood and the rest of her life.
  • At the end of the story Esperanza talks to three old women which tell her that she is beautiful and if she ever moves away she needs to move back because Mango Street is her home.
