The House on Mango Street took place in a poor Hispanic town in Chicago around the 1960's. The town was full of Hispanic's and immigrants who barely spoke any English and if they did it was hard to understand. In The House on Mango Street it mainly takes place in the house that Esperanza lives in with her family.
